The Business concentration with the Bachelor's of Interdisciplinary Studies, encompasses all aspects of business and
integrates them all. You learn important concepts and theories from accounting to other subjects, like finance.
It is a great summary of the Business field.
Accounting and Financial Analysis:
In this class, I learned about basic accounting concepts and how to apply them. I learned how to properly fill
out an accounting ledger and keep track of assets, expenses, stockholder's equity, and much more. In this course, I
learned about general accounting principles. I was taught how to analyze a business using income statements, balance
sheets, and statement of cash flows. I also learned about the investing, financing, and operating aspects of a busines.
Managerial Economics:
In this course, I learned the managerial aspect of economics and how to make business and managerial decisions based
off the theories and concepts presented in the course. I learned about Game Theory, Pure Competition, Supply and Demand,
Production Models, and about Competitive and Absolute Advantage within foreign and U.S. industries.
Personal Financial Management:
In this course, I learned about how to manage my own finances. I learned about investing in mutual funds, bonds,
and their future value and returns. I also learned about the different between banks and credit unions and the services
each provides. This course taught me about 401K's, loans, budgeting, how to do my own taxes, and how to create an ammortization
schedule. It gave me many tools that I could use in my own personal life.
Consumer Perspectives of Business Law:
This course taught me about contracts and how to interpret them. It made me more knowleadgeable of my own rights
and what I can do if I come across some legal situations. I learned about the importance of renter's insurance if I
get an apartment and what my landlord is and is not responsible for. It taught me about different types of laws related
to consumers. It made me more aware of my rights as a consumer.
Management and Strategy for Non-Majors:
This course taught me many management strategies. I learned how to become a leader. I learned the importance
of communication within the workplace and how to think as a manager. It also taught me how to create a positive work
environment by having good rapports with future employees and co-workers. I learned how to deal with many situations
that can arise in the workplace and how to create solutions for them.
Adverstising and Marketing Communication:
In this course, I learned about many different marketing and advertising techniques used by many companies. This
course taught me how to think outside the box to express my ideas and to get my point across without using too much information.
We created outdoor ads, magazine ads, and came up with marketing strategies and ideas for different types of companies.
